The idea to go to the Netherlands was okay, although I was a little sad to leave Columbia, because I would not see my family and friends for a long time. I had already visited the Netherlands as a tourist, but there is a big difference to just visiting or living in a country.
As a tourist I got to see another side to Holland. The first few weeks I really felt strange.
I had the feeling that just about everyone could see that I was new and did not speak the local language. I had 3 weeks off before school started and as I did not know anyone I could not really do a lot. Must admit I was a little scared for the first day at school, I mean, it was weird me amongst so many Germans in Holland! Two girls from my class showed me the school. The first week really was not easy, German is not my mother language, I did not understand a lot, and did not know anyone. Slowly but surely things got better, I have made friends and I found my place at school and in the Netherlands
