During the time that we moved to Belgium I was 15 years old. What helped with the adaptation to the new environment was that we had our own training day looking at the changes that were ahead of us. Nonetheless, it took a while to acclimatise, in particular at school. But in Brussels, the secret capital of Europe, there are many others like us; new. It was therefore not such a big deal to be new in a city were people constantly come and go. At school it did not take long to figure out the lay of the land. For me, sport is extremely important and has helped me a lot. I found myself a soccer club and have therefore lots of contact with other Belgian kids. This turned out to be a great resource, they helped with my French, I learned a lot about life in Belgium. I would recommend anyone to have friends outside of the European school community, this will help to broaden your horizon.
